The course serves as an introduction to the critical issues that surround the management of produced water from oil and gas development. This course discusses methods, equipment and tools used for testing, diagnosing, and minimizing water production from conventional and unconventional, onshore, oil and gas wells. It will cover basic petroleum geology and petroleum recovery as they relate to produced water and its management. Reservoir engineering and surface facility aspects of water handling, treatment, re-injection and injection well fracturing are discussed. Water quality will be discussed and the measurement of critical parameters. Microbiology as a driver for geochemical dynamics in produced water will be discussed. The course will also review microbial control options for engineering water quality parameters. Additionally, physical and chemical water treatment operations will be discussed as well as the desirable endpoints for treatment. Common and emerging water management alternatives will be reviewed in the context of conventional and unconventional oil and gas development. Emergent technologies that enable re-use of produced water will be discussed.
A tener en cuenta
"By the end of the course, students will be able to:
Describe the different sources of produced water in the oil and gas industry Describe common water quality parameters for different produced waters Describe the biogeoche"
